oral pathology and microbiology
The branch of Dentistry which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in the oral and maxillo-facial region. The speciality deals with the use of the latest equipment for diagnosis such as X-Rays, CT Scans, CBCT, and others. The knowledge of this branch of Dentistry is also of paramount importance in Forensic investigations and specialists of this field are often called upon for their advice in these.
Scope
After completing this course, the student is more capable of diagnosing diseases and cancers. Also, the doctor may set up his/her laboratory. Many such laboratories over the country offer services in immunoohistochemistry and other specialized procedures that they are exposed to during their course.
About the Department
The department has a fully functional immunohistochemistry lab, and a microbiology lab in addition to the histochemistry lab. The department is also involved in providing support for research projects of other specialities.
Academic Activities
The department has conducted two Continuing Dental Education programs highlighting the recent trends in the subject and in Forensic Odontology. In addition, the department routinely engages the undergraduate students in interesting activities so as to teach them in an informal environment. A carving competition was held in March 2015 in continuation of the same effort.
